State and Local Tax Revenues

By John Meara

The Tax Foundation recently issued a report summarizing the sources of state and local tax revenues.  In For 2010 for the total United States, 35% of the state and local revenue came from property taxes and 34% came from sales and gross receipt taxes.  The report shows the breakdown by states.  Kansas had a tax burden of 9.4% which is below the 9.8% national average, and Kansas ranks 25th lowest out of the 50 states.  Missouri had a tax burden of 9% and ranks 18th lowest out of the 50 states.  You will love the great charts of tax revenues by State.
