A revised version of Form I-9 “Employment Eligibility Verification” is available. Employers must complete Form I-9 to document verification of the identity and employment authorization of each new employee. Through September 17, 2017, employers can use either the old version of the form or the revised version of the form. Starting on September 18, 2017, employers should use the revised form (dated 07/17/17 in the lower left-hand corner and showing an expiration date of 08/31/2019 in the upper right-hand corner).
There have been some revisions to the list of acceptable documents, and some items on the list have been renumbered. There is also a revised handbook for employers providing guidance for completing Form I-9.
